The Student Gallery highlights student work inspired by Ellington's life and music. It includes artwork, poetry and audio-taped poetry readings from students in the Washington, DC area and invites students from around the country to submit Ellington commemorative works to ARTSEDGE.
The Student Artwork below is the work of elementary, middle and high school students from the Washington, DC area who have taken part in the Duke Ellington Youth Project and are exhibited at the National Museum of American History. The Duke Ellington Youth Project is a partnership of the District of Columbia Public Schools, The Program of African American Culture and The Duke Ellington Collection at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution.
The Student Gallery's Poetry Book features poetry by students at The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC. In addition to providing their poems, the students have read their work, so you can hear each poem being read by its author. Audio Clips require the RealPlayer. If not installed on your computer, the required software is available for free at the Real Networks web site.
